Living and Working the Mobile RV Life

I’ve been quite busy the last few months and no blogging here from me. I forget a password and that’s all it takes to consume more time than I have to get a blog post done. Needless to say, I’ve dedicated some time today to try to catch up on my travel blog.

The first of the year, after much trial and thought going into it, I switched to a new team at Microsoft. I loved my boss and my team, but it was very obvious I’d outgrown my current role and needed to move over to engineering. My new boss, although a bit surprised to hear that I lived in an RV full time, has come to realize that a mobile life and remote work go well together. I happily work during the weekdays, consciously focused on being as productive as humanly possible, no matter if from the RV, a coffee shop or on the road.

For January, we returned to one of our favorite RV Resorts, Chula Vista in San Diego, CA, which consistently is recognized as one of the “must visits” for RVer’s. I am in complete agreement, as I love the location between the Chula Vista harbor and the San Diego bay.

It’s wonderful to wake up to the sound of the seabirds, the peace of the park and bay behind the RV resort, along with the great amenities of the San Diego area. The weather is fantastic, staying around 65-80F all year. Never seems to get too hot or too cold, which makes it an RVer’s paradise.

While at the park, I did a few upgrades around the RV. I get an itch to update the interior and as it is a small space, I can just go to town. I ended up redoing the tile around the fireplace:

Freshly re-tiled fireplace and new rug.

Bought a new rug, as with the newer, cleaner look of the subway tile, was able to go to a pattern in the rug and bought new pillow covers. Its surprising how much a few changes can make in a small space. I was also aware of how dark it still was in the kitchen, so decided to tile the front of the kitchen island to lighten it up with the same white subway, peel n’ stick tile. It’s amazing how far peel n’ stick products have come. It wasn’t difficult to remove the previous tile from around the fireplace, but it was not about to come down until I used some elbow grease to remove it and the surface was easily ready for the new application of tile.

The amount of light added to the space is amazing and the look is just much cleaner, overall.

While here for two weeks, Rhys came out to visit for a week and we had a great time visiting La Jolla and out to Coronado island. The coast, the birds and sea lions are the attraction with shopping out on La Jolla:

Where heading out to Coronado island means shopping, enjoying the beaches and eateries.

No matter what, it was a great couple of weeks in San Diego before heading inland to Desert Springs! So happy that Rhys got to come spend some time with us here!
