For the first week of the renovation, a huge change has come about in the house. Our chihuahua, Esme, is sure we just bought a home to have it taken apart piece by piece, but for us, it’s been a fantastic view of how much can be done in a very short time.

The first two days, we watched the house go from a very 90’s aesthetic, to a shell, held up by supports as the central staircase.

This center location took up much of the main floor and eliminated space from the second floor and to remove it was a huge goal. They’ve replaced the back, sliding glass doors on both floors to match the new one on the second floor on the front of the house.

With the final knockdown of the support, we’re left with just the lower stairs needed to get to the top with the assistance of a ladder. The new floating stairs aren’t arriving until Sept. 28th, so this lower, shell of a staircase will need to stay a bit longer.
Upstairs has taken a lesser, but almost as large a change. Going from a carpeted, single room studio for the previous owner’s mother.

It first had the kitchenette removed, to be followed by the wall being removed, along with the previous bathroom to make room for the new master bath.

The carpeting is removed and the one opening from the previous wood stove pipe, is now closed and prepped for the rest of the closure around the new stairs and flooring.

They’ve finished the plumbing since the above photo for the master bath, along with the extended framing for the new walls. The trim around all the windows is sanded and prepped for paint, as they may need to paint everything before they put in the flooring.
For the second floor, the next step is to install the soaking tub, install the drywall and tile. As this will be an open shower and soaking tub area, the bathroom walls in the master bath will be almost entirely tiled. The master bath will be almost twice the size of the original bathroom and significantly more open, but for now, the bathroom from the opening from the previous stairs is JUST BIGGER… 🙂

We’re on schedule, under budget and set to still move in on Oct. 31st. I’ll continue to hold myself back from ordering furniture, (OK, so I failed on a few things… :)) and stay tuned.
